Dear colleagues,
I'm doing some tests with harvesting in GeoNetwork 2.2, in order to try real
interoperability.
I've managed to harvest data from other GeoNetwork nodes.
But now I'm not suceeding in harvesting data from CSW servers (ESRI,
GeoNetwork CSW, Ionic as suggested in previous posts, ...). The error I'm
getting when all the required operations are mentioned in the capabilities
is the following:
"OperationAbortedEx : Raised exception when searching"
Question 1: Harvesting only works with CSW 2.0.1 as red in the past?
Question 2: Could anyone specify any CSW server for test harvesting? I've
run out of ideas/links for continuing my tests.
Thanks in advance,
Oscar Gomez

CSW is highly version-specific and many (most?) servers reject a client requesting anything but the particular version they support. In my experience, not many CSW servers are backwards compatible.
The next version of GN will support CSW 2.0.2 (it's already checked into subversion but is _not_ in GN 2.2).
Question 2: Could anyone specify any CSW server for test harvesting? I've
run out of ideas/links for continuing my tests.
Running CSW 2.0.1? I'm not sure who's still running that version. Maybe someone here will volunteer. I've got a 2.0.2 server running as a demo.

Hi Archie,
Finally I managed to harvest from one server:
http://www.geodata.alterra.nl/excat/csw?request=GetCapabilities&service=CSW
CSW 2.0.2, and I guess they might be using GeoNetwork 2.x. I don't know why
this worked and other GNs didn't (as CSW).
Any other server I've tried (deegree, ArcIMS, Ionic, ...) failed, most of
them with an exception when searching. Other servers failed because of the
Capabilities document.
Regarding your server, yes, I tried it, but it failed too. How did I manage
to find your server? Just searched in Google "inurl:GetCapabilities + csw"

Hi Oscar,
I assume you are using Gn 2.2.0 and not a version you build using the code in Subversion? The code in subversion has the CSW 2.0.2 code as Archie wrote previously and I would suggest to check that out and test using that code if CSW 2.0.2 is a high priority for you.

Hi Jeroen,
Yes, I'm using GN 2.2.0.
I will test the code in Subversion as you suggest. My priority is just
interoperability, so I need to try 2.0.2 too.
Thanks for the tip, I'll come back with the results.
Best,

I think that's a good strategy. Many of the changes from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 were to remove ambiguities and improve interoperability. I think it's a more reliably useful version of the protocol.
Please let me know how it works for you.

Hi Archie,
YES, it worked. I built geonetwork from the code on subversion. Now I can
harvest from your node, CSW 2.0.2.
*But now, CSW 2.0.1 doesn't work!!!!*
I'm anyway running more tests on other CSW nodes using other software (ESRI,
deegree, ...).
I'm building an "interoperability matrix" that I will share.
But in the meantime, *does anyone know why do I get the error "Missing
'SearchResults'" from harvesting CSW 2.0.2*?
Thanks in advance. Best Regards,
Oscar Gomez

hi Oscar,
you get that error message "Missing SearchResults" because you're receiving
a message in the CSW 2.0.1 namespace, where GeoNetwork is expecting a
message in the CSW 2.0.2 namespace.
I have put in a fix last Friday such that GeoNetwork will first try a
CSW2.0.2, and if that fails, try CSW2.0.1 namespace. If you use the latest
code from Subversion this problem should disappear.
Kind regards

What about 2.0.0? There are a number of CSW servers already running using

Hi Oscar,
Both version 2.0.0 and 2.0.1 have lots of issues that make it really hard to get good interoperable systems. So we decided to drop support for those altogether. This should make life less complex for us in the future, except for telling people they should not expect these versions of CSW to work
Cheers,

Thanks Jeroen,
So what you suggest is trying to live just with version 2.0.2, right?
That could be ok with me (in fact the project I'm working in is looking more
to the future than to the past).
Do you think that interoperability with other platforms different than
GeoNetwork will be possible from CSW 2.0.2 onwards?
Could anyone suggest CSW 2.0.2 servers, not using GeoNetwork, in order to
try interoperability?

Oscar

Hello,
is it possible to get this patch in the stable Geonetwork 2.2.0?
Thanks, David.
Quoting heikki <tropicano@anonymised.com>:
hi Oscar,
you get that error message "Missing SearchResults" because you're receiving
a message in the CSW 2.0.1 namespace, where GeoNetwork is expecting a
message in the CSW 2.0.2 namespace.
I have put in a fix last Friday such that GeoNetwork will first try a
CSW2.0.2, and if that fails, try CSW2.0.1 namespace. If you use the latest
code from Subversion this problem should disappear.
Kind regards

Hi Archie,
YES, it worked. I built geonetwork from the code on subversion. Now I can
harvest from your node, CSW 2.0.2.
*But now, CSW 2.0.1 doesn't work!!!!*
I'm anyway running more tests on other CSW nodes using other software
(ESRI,
deegree, ...).
I'm building an "interoperability matrix" that I will share.
But in the meantime, *does anyone know why do I get the error "Missing
'SearchResults'" from harvesting CSW 2.0.2*?
Thanks in advance. Best Regards,
Oscar Gomez
