[GeoNetwork-users] how to: metadata migration, second attempt

hi all,

second attempt. i think the migration of metadata is important for more people than me so i don't give up. i appreciate every help, e.g. a hint for a tutorial, short descriptions, how other people manage this problem, concrete hints for importing metadata with the batch import of geonetwork, workarounds, ...

there are at least three use cases:

use case 1: migration of metadata from instance 1 to instance 2 of geonetwork using the same database
solution: export and import the data with database-tools, e.g. druid
problem: druid doesn't export the field which contains the xml-data

use case 2: migration of metadata from instance 1 to instance 2 of geonetwork using another database
solution: exporting the metadata with geonetwork or a database-tools, e.g. druid, importing the metadata with geonetwork batch import
problem: is there a possibility to export metadata with geonetwork, druid doesn't export the field which contains the xml-data

use case 3: migration of metadata from another source or a incompatible geonetwork version
solution: XML Metadata Insert or Batch Import with geonetwork
problem: i get a lot of constraints violations, also with metadata which are created by geonetwork (see below)

thanks and greetings from munich
christian

Betreff: [GeoNetwork-users] how to: metadata migration

hi all,

first of all, i like geonetwork. it's a great tool for exploring metadata and finding data.

next to my problem: what is the best way for migrating metadata sets from one geonetwork instance to another.
i tried to copy metadata sets from the xml-view and to paste it (exactly the same metadata) with XML metadata insert. i get errors like

Error on line 64: The reference to entity "fname" must end with the ';'
delimiter.

Error on line 268: The content of elements must consist of well-formed character data or markup.

Immediate unique constraint violation (_ANONYMOUS_CONSTRAINT_8) Columns = ( uuid ) Table = ( APP.Metadata )

if i am correcting all the errors the import works but with a lot of manual work. thats not possible for a lot of data.

if i am trying the batch import i get always the same message which i don't understand

The requested operation could not be performed.
Error on line 1 of document file:/home/christian/test/: Content is not allowed in prolog.

any help appreciated, thanks and greetings from munich christian

p.s. maybe there is a tutorial or howto for metadata importing, but i didn't find it yet

Hi Christian,
Yes, we need an explanation posted on the web. There is a migration procedure from a GN v2.0 node to a version 2.1 node. You have to use the tool GAST that also comes with the software. you can find a batch file to start the application in the GN2.1 installation under ..\geonetwork\bin\
In that interface you configure the connection to the new installation and the old one. All metadata, thumbnails, privileges and data will be migrated by this tool.
You can also use the tool to make a backup of a GN 2.1 node and import it again in the same or in a new GN 2.1 node.

Please test them and provide feedback if you run into problems!
Thanks,
Jeroen
