[GeoNetwork-users] implement layer searching in another webapplication?

  hi!
I just want to know if it's possible to implement the layer searching tool
(ex:show me agriculture layers from France) in another web application. I
think that if I could just get the GetCapabilities of servers containing the
layers I'm looking for, then my mapViewer (using mapBuilder) is able to
visualize it. It would be great!

If it is possible, I need to install GeoNetwork? or may be I can ask to
remote GeoNetworks?
Thanks,

Pere

Hi,

All is always possible

More seriously i do not understand exactly what do you want to do ?
- Using the GN search with embeded intermap in you personnal application

If that is the question i think it is possible with work.
You have to get the embeded part and make our interface coherent with the
search parameters of the geonetwork interface or conversely.

I think that if I could just get the GetCapabilities of servers
containing the layers I'm looking for, then my mapViewer (using
mapBuilder) is able to visualize it. It would be great!

Do you wish you can use the GN interface to get the localized parameters ?

For me the search service send parameters direclty to the GN application for
search processing.
And the response is the result of the search not the parameters.

Maybe i don't understand ...

Best regards

Hi Pere,

Actually you want to query a server geonetwork and display wms layers
related to metadata returned by the query, is that right?

Have a look at this site I think that's what you want to achieve.
Go on the "WmsBrowser" tab and perform a search in catalog.

If that's what you want to do, feel free to ask for more details but maybe
I don't understand!
Cheers,

Mathieu

Ok, I didn't make myself clear, so I'll explain more: I want to search for metadata that are
enclosed in an area that I draw in the map (in the original geonetwork). I noticed that if there
is no region declared that resides inside the area I have drawn, then nothing is returned. Which
means that if the user wants to find any metadata enclosed in a geographic area, it first searches
to find if there is a region enclosed in that geographic area, and then returns all metadata enclosed
in that region. Also, that geographic area cannot be smaller than a 2x2 degree bounding box. Is
that right?

  Fabien,
  merci for your quick answer.

Maybe is my fault, because I still not have studied in depth how
GeoNetwork works. Just take a look at the webapplication we are developing
(http://edit.csic.es:8080/edit_geo/prototype/edit.html) and figure out the
Geonetwork search tool on the left tab. This "new" tool should only look
for data in the Category Maps&Graphics from the Advanced Search (because I
only want to visualize WMS layers).

I want to connecto to the Web Map Servers that have these layers (this is
reflected in the GetCapabilities file of this WMS). If I know the URL of
this WMS and the name of the layer I should be able to visualize this layer
in my webapplication. I expected the URL of the WMS to appear in Metadata,
but it doesn't. In fact, using Category Maps&Graphics from the Advanced
Search rarely appear any map to visualize in the Geonetwork intermap ! )of
course it doesn't mean that FAO has any WMS layer to serve!). I deduct that
this is not the tool I'm looking for... or I'm missing something (very
possible ;.)

best regards,
Pere
