[GeoNetwork-users] Installing GeoNetwork3

Hi,

I am new to GeoNetwork and would like to test it as a catalog of our geodata.

Unfortunately, I can't find a documentation how to install the software. The official doc is just empty: http://geonetwork-opensource.org/manuals/trunk/eng/users/maintainer-guide/installing/index.html. There was a very detailled PowerPoint from 2010, showing how to install GeoNetwork 2, including an old JavaVersion and so on. This kind of "recipe" is what I am looking for, because I am using a new and emtpy Ubuntu Server.

Anything on the horizon?

Best regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,

What environment do you want to install geonetwork in? Windows, Linux? Do
you want to use the installer or the war file (for use with tomcat, for
example).

Thanks

Jo

Hi

The installation is quite similar to GeoNetwork 2, so for that you can take
a look to the 2.10.X manual

http://geonetwork-opensource.org/manuals/2.10.4/eng/users/quickstartguide/installing/index.html

Also for a war installation you can check
http://geonetwork-opensource.org/_static/foss4g2010/FOSS4G_Mastering_Advanced_GeoNetwork.pdf,
it's pretty old, but most of the stuff still applies.

Hi,

thanks for the links. I don't know about the differences between the two installers (jar and war). The first one worked for me. Installed Java, installed a GUI for Ubuntu, started the installer.jar, went through everything and were not able to start the jetty server (problems with not existing log-files).
Found this one: http://sourceforge.net/p/geonetwork/mailman/message/24541270/
Then it worked!

Now I have to go on using the software :-), probably running in problems installing Postgres and so on.

We will see, thanks a lot,
Martin

Hello everyone

I installed the geonetwork 3.0.1. I have migrated the database from version
2.10.4,

specifying:

in /WEB-INF/config-db/jdbc.properties

jdbc.username = **********
jdbc.password = **********
jdbc.database = **********
jdbc.host = xxx.xxx.xxx

and /WEB-INF/config-node/srv.xml

uncommenting the line

<import resource = "../ config-db / postgres.xml" />

So far so good, restart the tomcat.

Geonetwork entry, upload metadata correctly, but when I go to edit any of
these, I get the following error:

{"error": {"message": "GC overhead limit exceeded", "class",
"OutOfMemoryError", "stack": "", "request": {}}}

and just then through a terminal with "top -c" command I see how the load on
#MEM #CPU and climbs beyond 100.

There are some additional configuration for Tomcat, give more memory ???

SO: Centos 6.5
Apache Tomcat 7.0.55
JDK: 8

Thanks....

Hello everyone

I found another problem that I have with my Geonetwork 3.0.1, plus the
error:

{"error": {"message": "GC overhead limit exceeded", "class",
"OutOfMemoryError", "stack": "", "request": {}}}

Now I could enter edit a metadata, but does not appear any of the fields to
modify .. That will be happening ???
