[GeoNetwork-users] Metadata export error with GAST (2.6.1)

Hi all,

I have encountered a nagging obstacle in exporting metadata via GAST and I
wonder if anyone can offer any tips to get around it. I am hoping to export
all of my metadata (just 73 records/downloads so far) as MEFs from my
default local (8080) installation of 2.6.1 (literally the box I'm sending
this post from) in preparation for an upgrade to 2.6.3 and a migration of
this and a lot of other data etc to two external servers (development,
production). An error is preventing me from doing so.

Specifically, I'm repeatedly getting an IllegalArgumentException error:
'host must not be null'. In GAST's metadata export panel, I'm able to
specify an output folder (an empty new one on our file server), format
(partial), and skip UUID (unchecked) - but the remaining fields in the panel
it seems are the source of the error. The 'free text' search I don't need as
I don't want to export just a subset of my metadata, yet given the error
that pops up, some entry in this field seems required - but search doesn't
seem to work anyway. Also, I'm unable to specify Site ID from the drop-down
(greyed-out, no choices) nor group owner (same). Clicking Retrieve next to
Site ID or Export at the bottom of the panel yields the 'host must not be
null' error. The error obviously stems from there being fields left blank,
yet I'm unable to enter or choose values for them in the first place.

I have been told that I must have only the database instance itself running,
not the GeoNetwork instance running for GAST to be able to do its job.
However, this distinction makes no sense to me, especially given that my GN
installation is local (the default). Moreover, GAST's operating mode
specifies that the tool can be used only if GeoNetwork is running. Just to
to be sure, I tried the metadata export detailed above both with the server
started/logged in to GN, and with the server stopped/logged out of GN - and
got the same error message regardless.

Would anyone have any knowledge as to how I can get around this and move
forward? Any info would be most appreciated - thanks!
