[GeoNetwork-users] multiple 'data' dirs?

Hi Guys

I was wanting to roll a 'installed version' update, by doing a WAR extract in the right spot. Sounds a little backwards, but thought it would be a quick fix as there was not much in the way of custom config on the node.

I assumed that the installer would use installdir/data as the dir path for the embededDB - I was wrong, it uses the installdir/web/geonetwork/WEB-INF/db folder.

I am pretty sure the spatial index is another thing not written into the installdir/data too.

Is this really good practice? do we need to introduce the concept of a 'GEONETWORK_DATA_DIR' (as stolen from GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR, or GEOWEBCACHE_DATA_DIR) and consolidate the data dir? I think it would make more sense for the permissions on the filesystem too.

Any thoughts?

If using 2.8.x or trunk, see

Cheers.

Any thoughts?
