The translations for that facet are defined to use the codelist gmd:MD_TopicCategoryCode:

Defined in https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/blob/master/schemas/iso19139/src/main/plugin/iso19139/loc/eng/codelists.xml (for English UI, check the related file for your UI language).
If you have extended the codelist with the value newTopic, check that is added also in that file.
In any case, if this is a custom value for specific metadata schema, and needs to be interoperable with the INSPIRE portal for example, check that is removed when exporting the metadata to standard iso19139.

I've been given a GeoNetwork 3.4 that has been customized with a new language.
One of the customization has been adding more values to the codelist for topics of the ISO19139.
I need to add one more, so in every language I have added a new value to that list in the codelist.xml files of the ISO19139. When I create a new metadata or edit an old one, the new value is offered with no problem.
The issue is in the homepage of GeoNetwork. In the summary, doesn't appear the label for that new topic:
