[GeoNetwork-users] Performance metrics and recommended production environment characteristics

Hello lists,

has anyone ever done any performance testing with GeoNetwork ? If so would
you be willing to share the results ?

I'm also looking for recommendations on a production environment for
GeoNetwork. RAM, diskspace, which servlet container to use, etc.

I'm also interested in this - to paraphrase my team leader: "why is every
site on the geonetwork "nodes" page slower than heck?" (we are trying to
decide to use GeoNetwork, or roll our own).

Hi!
One reason definitely is that there are quite a number of nodes on that page that are hosted in countries with very poor outgoing web connections (quite some nodes are in developing countries). These servers are often very slow. Also the transfer of thumbnails in result pages may slow thins down for those nodes. Another reason is that the older nodes have some big JavaScript files that should have been stripped. More optimization can definitely still be done in the software, I'm sure, but some work has been done already.

We're feeling pretty comfortable with a big Dell 8-core 24GB box:

We have only a small datastore right now. We're using PostgreSQL as backend, Tomcat6 as servlet container. We expect that any scaling issues will be resolved by clustering PostgreSQL and Tomcat appropriately.

Hi, on performance testing, working on adding SpatialFilter to Lucene[1]
last week with Jesse, we also add the issue raised some times ago on
tooManyFilesException[2] when you start having a lot of concurrents
connections (only met once on one production catalogue from my side).
We applied the patch attached to [2] and solve the problem in most of
the case.

We're also working on improving Lucene index content (stopwords list
mainly) in order to remove useless content (which also make query
slower).
