[GeoNetwork-users] Proposal the creation of french GN community

Hi all,

Since my last mail concerning the french community, the "french" team
defined the objectives and the organisation to contribute to the life of
the GN community in relation with Geosource project. We create a
proposal available here :
http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/wiki/Community_FR

Our main tasks are :
    * create a sandbox for geosource project in sourceforge repository
    * create a french mailing list (mainly from user perspective) :
geonetwork-users-fr@lists.sourceforge.net,
    * improve/create translation (documentation, website, application)
in French
    * add specific french requirements and specific european
requirements (INSPIRE) about metadata in GeoNetwork if possible.

Is there any objection on that ?

Could we process to a vote to create this french community??

Thanks by advance,

Pierre
BRGM

+1.

Just some more details, GeoSource is a flavour of GeoNetwork focusing on managing metadata in France (mainly including ISO profil for France). Some features have been developed (eg. Thesaurus support, Openlayers maps, iso19110), some of them merged to trunk (eg. multilingual schematron) and some under improvements on other projects (eg. xlink support).

I hope the creation of a french mailing list will also help french speaking people to discuss GeoNetwork and GeoSource topic. This information will be of interest to the OSGEO francophone local chapter.

Ciao.

Francois

Hi Pierre,
I welcome the proposal and look forward to a more aligned version of GeoNetwork and GeoSource. This is a good first step in that direction.

For what concerns the proposal itself, I would like to split out one element that I think can not be voted on in the same proposal. The last proposal "add specific french requirements and specific european
requirements (INSPIRE) about metadata in GeoNetwork if possible" needs to be worked out in more detail and then needs better discussion before it can be agreed upon since it directly impacts the GeoNetwork code.

I hope you can split that part out, or change it into something that explains the intent to do this instead of stating that after the proposal specific french requirements will be added in GN.

Don't take this as a blocker, more as a procedural clarification  After that we can propose a vote.

Ciao,
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

In accordance with Pierre, we added some more details on the french community proposal in trac [1].
For clarification, the element about INSPIRE has been splitted out of the proposal and Francois has created a page to list INSPIRE requirements [2] (including the progress made in GeoSource project, on going work made in CSW or geocat.ch).

For the release of GeoSource v2, it could be really nice to have the user mailing list open. Do you think everything is ok to process to a vote for the creation of the french community?

Thanks by advance,

Etienne, BRGM
