I found the problem and it sounds like a bug: the admin password I entered when installing contained a ‘@’, which the install program didn’t like (it complained that it want’s passwords > 6 chrs, even though mine was 8), so I re-entered a password without the @. However, after looking at the new McKoi DB with Druid I noticed that it had written the password with the @, yet the website was not accepting it to login. So I changed it in the DB and now I can login.
But now I wonder if the install overwrote the old DB or not?.. so I redid a forced uninstall. During the next install I got an error saying ‘address already in use’ and said Yes to Continue? Any idea what that error refers to?
Now when I go to the import metadata page the Schema dropdown is no longer populated. In my first install of Geonetwork 2 is was populated (ISO, FGDC). Any clue?
btw how does one migrate metadata from the old DB to the new one?
and how does one set up Geonetwork to harvest from other servers?

I have just installed Geonetwork 2 RC 1. I have one of the beta versions before
that and ran the uninstall jar. The McKoi database was not removed however???
When you uninstall, you should check the ‘force uninstall’ checkbox.
The new site seems to run smoothly (www.eis-africa.org:8080/geonetwork)) but
when I try to login as administrator I get the message ‘The requested operation
could not be performed’ with no other information. Please assist
thanks
Gavin
It seems that you cannot even do a search without logging in. Maybe the
database is not updated. Try to remove all files from the previous geonetwork
and install it again (or in another directory). Remember that you cannot keep
the database of the previous geonetwork release. You can obtain more
information from the log (catalina.out or jetty.log).
Cheers,
Andrea
