hi ryan,
sorry - we don't use geonetwork for managing the metadata of the webservices.
we use a service registry which is simply based on an adopted mapbender data
schema. so we have all wms, layer, wfs, featuretypes, as single objects in a
relational postgres/postgis schema available. this is much more easier than
have them in the geonetwork metadata table. if you use the geonetwork schema
for managing this resources, you must read out the information of the
metadata table - column 'data' - and parse the relevant infos for your
webservice it into a spatial table. i would recommend, to install some
database triggers to do this. our goal is not only to serve metadata but to
give access to the services and manage them on a simple way.
we plan to integrate geonetwork as a metadata editor and maybe as integration
system to collect different geonetwork nodes. the services are out of scope,
cause many relevant information about services (availability, monitoring
status, authorization, ...) cannot be interchanged by the use of CSW 2.0.2.
or any other catalogue service - till now.
regards
armin

Hi Armin
That application looks neat. I've managed to get my Geoserver wms pointing
to the shapefile however currently it only shows an ID on getFeatureInfo. A
couple of questions: * How do I configure the wms (Geoserver) to point to a
webservice to provide metadata * which web service will provide the data?
GeoNetwork or have you crafted one that extracts the info from GN?

Thanks
Ryan

hello ryan,
if this shapefile exists in your implementation this is really simple. you
have only one problem: you must create a link in your getfeatureinfo
response which points to a webservice that give you the metadata (mayba in
html or xml). this can be easily be done be mapservers template
functionality. we' ve done somthing similar. in http://www.geoportal.rlp.de
you can search for a wms layer which is called 'layerumringe' (use the left
search form) and add this layer to our client. for us, this is a easy way
to see which regions the registrated wms layers cover. with a
getfeatureinfo on the
layerextent-layer you can get a list of all layers which covers this point
and have look at their metadata.

Sorry Armin
I think we misinterpreted each other:

How can I get Geoserver wms's getFeatureInfo function displaying the metadata registered for a record (point) out of Geonetwork.
Thus, getting the wms to query geonetwork and display the geonetwork metadata record

Hope that is a little clearer

hello ryan,
i would prefer mapserver for such a task. the template system of geoserver is
described here: http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/GetFeatureInfo+templates
but i've no experience with it. :frowning: the problem that i've described before, is
that the geometry of the bbox in geonetwork is handled as a indexed shape
file. so you cannot handle attributes and geometry together. i would suggest
to create a cronjob to import the shape file into one postgres table and some
triggers to export the relevant information of the data xml column in the
metadata table of geonetworks database into another flat table. this two
tables can be joined together by the id's and then you can configure
geoserver to use this jon as a datasource for your wms.
another possibility is to use the xml directly as a gml input datasource for
geoserver. but you have different schemas and i think, that you will have to
put the records in the filesystem, maybe synchronize their schemas and then
put them into one gml file? - But this will be quit slow, cause you have no
indizes and you must parse the whole xml ...
i hope this will help a little bit,
