[GeoNetwork-users] Remote Search Option not displayed?

Hi there,

I'm trying out the the new GeoNetwork Opensource software (v2.1) but can't
seem to find the remote search option ....

Have reinstalled including all options but cannot find this option?

Grateful for ideas...

Hi,

I have the same problem, i see the new part catalog in the advanced search
part but i'am not sure it's the same.

I try to configure the search-profile.xml and repositories.xml file but i
don't success.

The profile i create don't appear on the catalog list.

But i see the new type :
<TypeMapping type="HSS" class="com.k_int.srw.client.SRWSearchable" />

on the repositories.xml file.

That don't exist on the older version, maybe it is working differently ...

On the old version, i use the remote search to find metadata coming from
other geonetwork node or geosource node.

I think it can be very usefull to search and view metadata without
harvesting and storing them locally.

Hi,

I think this is another subject but to answer you, the template are managed
like the metadata so on the advanced search option you can choose to only
search template or sub template and delete or update them like the metadata.

Nb : template are used to create metadata by copy method, so if you update
the template the metadata created with the template are not automaticaly
updated.

Hi,
I've been using the remote search extensively exactly for the same
purpose. Having several nodes cross registered as remote sites in the
search gives more exposure to the metadata, without the additional burden
of local storage. I hope this feature will be restored in a future
update.
Perhaps the remote search didn't work perfectly all the time, but is that
a reason to remove it or fix it? Is it really so rarely used by others?

Hi,
I think Andrea cut the corner a bit short :slight_smile: We have removed it from the default search view because it was confusing (and frustrating) to most users, the functionality has and will not be removed. Many did not understand the difference between a remote search and a normal one that also showed results from other (remote) catalogues. At the same time we have not evolved the remote search much further.
Work is currently done to use Z39.50 to harvest and locally cache metadata from catalogues that use this protocol. This was unfortunately not ready before the 2.1.0 release.
The old remote search interface is now unavailable, this should be put back in place. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi,

All the xsl files are located under the xsl repository of the web/geonetwork repository .
Have a look at the config.xml file under the web/geonetwork/WEB-INF/ repository.
You will find all the description of the service, and especially the main.home one.

<service name="main.home">
<output sheet="main-page.xsl">
......
</service>

So, the file under the main.home service is main-page.xsl in the xsl repository. This one is including other xsl files as main.xsl, metadata.xsl, and so on.

Hello,

I search the files about parameters for using the "Remote Search".
We had chosen this option in default. Now we want to use this option but I
research without results.
