[GeoNetwork-users] Request for connetcing GeoNetwork MetaCatalogue

Dear Pär,
Thank you for your email. Of course you may set up harvesting from our server. You do not need a username and password to do so. This will give you access to all public metadata. Instructions on how to set this up are available from the GeoNetwork Community website. I have copied the specific XML fragment needed to harvest from the FAO site on a 24 hours schedule:

[www.fao.org](http://www.fao.org) 80 en xml.user.login xml.user.logout xml.search xml.metadata.get fao view download dynamic

You can add other sites within the same element, they will all be harvested using the same schedule.
To make sure the first harvest is done quickly, you may want to set the when=“24 hours” to when=“3 min” because the first harvest will than be done after 3 minutes instead of after 24 hours. Change this back to 24 hours after a first harvesting was completed. You need to restart the server at that point.
The changes go into the config.xml document found in …/geonetwork/web/WEB-INF/

Good luck,
Jeroen

Subject: Request for connetcing GeoNetwork MetaCatalogue

Dear Sir/Madam,

At Gävle GIS Institute, we are currently working on setting up a metadata catalogue service in an European Union sponsored project. This project aims to give persons involved with coastal zone planning some education in using GIS and searching for data with help of metadata catalogues. Therefore we have created a metadata catalogue service. This catalogue service will also function as a demonstration and test bed for future development of metadata catalogue services based on open source code and system based on commercial off the shelf software. It is a non-profit system where we don’t charge any for using it and no other fees are involved.

We would like to be able to harvest some metadata from your service that we can store in our system (INSPIRE-X) for demonstration purpose. We hope it would be acceptable from your part and if we would very much have some information how to (technically) to setup the harvesting on our system (e.g. username, password, server to harvest from, etc).

Kindest regards

Pär E Liljergren
