[GeoNetwork-users] RIF-CS schema

I am wanting to setup geonetwork to enable me to add various sources of
information ranging from GIS layers, to reports to publications etc. Some
obviously have no geographic information apart from the location of the
author. I am wanting to use a RIF-CS schema. I downloaded a patch from Scott
Yeadon contributed and I think this transforms the ISO19139 template. (That
is my understanding but I am very new to all this).

What I want to know is do I just add the detail via New Metadata and that is
all or am I missing a big part of the picture? Sorry but I am very new to
GeoNetwork and still trying to get a grasp on what it can provide me.

Hi Neat,

As I understand it, the RIF-CS patch that you have allows iso19139
metadata stored in geonetwork to be retrieved as RIF-CS metadata via its
OAI-PMH server. The conversion is performed by the server on request
using the transformation supplied.

I believe the patch was written for the Australian National Data Service
(ANDS) so that they could harvest iso19139 catalog records in various
geonetwork instances around the country in RIF-CS format into their
registry which uses this format.

It is also possible to add the RIF-CS schema as a supported schema to
geonetwork so that RIF-CS metadata could be created and maintained in
geonetwork but I don't believe Scott's patch does this, probably because
this was not the use case he was trying to address.

Regards,
