[GeoNetwork-users] thumbnails not show harvesting WMS geonetwork 10

Dear all

I'm struggling trying to figure out why thumbnails are not showed
after harvesting a local geoserver 2.3. I have checked permissions and
seeing the log but everything looks ok. I think it is a common issue
(which i could not resolve in GeonetWork 2.8, so i upgraded hoping
this error dissapear). I'm running geonetwork with tomcat6 and postgis
database..

Could anybody give me a clue to face the problem?

Thanks in advance

Hi Jesús

Check if this solves the issue: select protocol WMS 1.1.1 version. In the
type of import, unselect the check for Create metadata for layer elements
using MetadataURL attributes.

Last week I had similar issue and this solved my problem. I have pending to
check the issue for a fix.

Jose García

Hi Jose

No luck at all. i've been testing differents configuration in the
past, however i tried again as you suggest but thumbails are not
showed.

Actually i have two differents geonetwork / geoserver in a local /
intranet enviroment. Both are deployed using war files. Neither of
them are able to manage thumbnails correctly, but the geonetwork log
in the intranet site is giving me some errors.

index geometry of metadata 1889. Error: null

Hi Jesús

I have found that if the url is configured to
http://localhost:8080/geoserver/wms?request=GetCapabilities&service=WMSmakes
fail the thumbnails retrieval, but removing the request and service
parameters seem working fine. Seem that this has been changed from previous
versions.

I have this configuration (harvesting from GeoServer 2.3.2):

Protocol: WMS 1.1.1
Url: *http://localhost:8080/geoserver/wms* (no request or service params)

Type of import:
Create metadata for layer elements using GetCapabilities information.
Create metadata for layer elements using MetadataURL attributes (if
existing, if not use GetCapabilities).
Create thumbnails for WMS layers.

With previous configuration I get the thumbnails harvested without fails
and displayed in the search results of the new UI (default in 2.10), but in
the classic UI still continue to get the No preview image available (need
to check more about this).

If you use the new UI, previous configuration I guess helps to get the
harvester working fine with thumbnails.

Jose García

Hi Jose.

Great! It's been working switching to a new UI

<client type="redirect" widget="true" url="../../apps/tabsearch/"
createParameter="#create" stateId="s"/>

I guess we can play with different configuration using the new UI
without loosing the thumbnails. Let's see how does it works in the
server environment with a bunch of layers waiting to be harvested.

Please, warn me if you figure out what was happening with the previous
gui, even for curiosity...

Thank you so much!.

Best regards
Jesús

Hi Jesús

I'm investigating and found the problem, want to discuss with other
developers before committing.

Related to the new UI, it's not the tabsearch, but the html5 ui, you can
enable in config-gui.xml with this line:

<client type="redirect" widget="true" url="../../srv/eng/search"
createParameter="#create" stateId="s" />

Jose García

I guess we can play with different configuration using the new UI
without loosing the thumbnails. Let's see how does it works in the
server environment with a bunch of layers waiting to be harvested.

Please, warn me if you figure out what was happening with the previous
gui, even for curiosity...

Thank you so much!.

Hi Jose

Thanks for your help. I wish i could give a try to git geonetwork trunk but
i'm having some issues compiling with ant. Anyway that's another matter.
HTML5 UI it's a big step to modernize geonetwork appearence and usability.
I'll be waiting for María Arias workshop to customize HTML5 UI .

Now once everything is more or less under control it's time to metadata!.

Jesús
