[GeoNetwork-users] Time for translations

Dear all,

With GeoNetwork opensource beta4 out and bug fixing at full speed, it is time to get the translations in so the multi lingual part can also be completed. There were some reports of problems with that part, so don't worry too much when you see lacking strings and so on for now.

IMPORTANT notes!!!

- Inform the lists if you plan to contribute to a language to avoid duplication of efforts.
- Use the original files from the CVS system as they contain some variables that should NOT be translated or removed. The variables are written in capital letters and start with an @
- Please make sure you use the latest English files as the basis. The strings.xml file is the most critical one to start with.
- Please avoid organization specific content.
- XML files should use UTF8 encoding
- All languages are welcome, although they will not all be enabled by default. English, French, Spanish, Chinese will be by default and we hope to also add Arabic eventually.

Looking forward to contributions! Thanks in advance,
Ciao,
Jeroen

Dear all, i would be pleased to work on the French translation ... Any works
in progress ?

Another question on geonetwork b4. How to add a new schema ? I would like to
integrate an ISO 19139 schema into geonetwork. Any doc available on that
topic ? It could be nice to have an how-to for that ...
I'll look into that ... Any help appreciated.

Thanks. Francois

Hi Francois,

nobody is working on the french translation so, if you want,
you can start.

Regarding schemas, they are dynamically added to the system when
geonetwork starts. Every directory found inside web/xml/schemas is
added as a schema. The name of the directory will be the name of the
schema. Inside that directory you should have the following files:

- schema.xsd : this is the XML schema file that describes your schema

- update-fixed-info: called on update to update infos that must be fixed

- extract-uuid.xsl: retrieves the uuid from a metadata. Now only the ISO
file works (for the others we have to find out a suitable location for it).

- extract-thumbnails: extracts the thumbnails from a metadata

- [un]set-thumbnail: [un]sets a metadata thumbnail

After doing that, you have to customize the visualization/edit stylesheets.

Cheers,
Andrea

I forgot to mention something about ISO19139. We have planned
to migrate from ISO19115 to ISO19139 by the end of the year
when we will ship a 2.1 release that will include the catalog
services for the web (CSW).

Cheers,
Andrea
