[GeoNetwork-users] Urgent: xml.user.update service in geonetwork 2.10.4

Hi List

While logged in as an administrator I can't use the xml.user.update
service- this redirects back to the service-not-allowed page every time. I
asked about this with 2.10.3 and was told that it had been removed in 2.10
for some reason- and it still seems to be absent in 2.10.4 even though it's
in the documentation. I have an urgent business requirement for using these
services, so I'd like to know if there is an open bug for them in 2.10.4,
and what would be required to get it fixed in 2.10.x. Potentially my
company could look at sponsoring a fix if that was an option.

Could someone let me know what the status of this problem is?

Many thanks

Jo

Hi Jo

Not really sure why this service was removed, also seem not reported in any
issue (https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/milestones/2.10.5)

A solution, is to re-add the service from the 2.8.x configuration, copy the
snippet from
https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/blob/2.8.x/web/src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/config.xml#L794-L797
into your 2.10 installation and restart GeoNetwork to get the new service.

Hi Jose,

I'll give that a go- would it be possible to test this independently, and
if it has definitely been removed, get it added as a bug for 2.10.5? I am
concerned that if it doesn't get included in core, then I will need to keep
doing this temporary fix every time I upgrade.

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jose,

Unfortunately this still doesn't seem to have worked. I have added the
snippet into config.xml, restarted geonetwork, logged in as an
administrator, and I get the same error. For what it's worth, in case I am
doing something wrong- here is the URL I am using:

http://path/to/geonetwork2.10.4/srv/xml.user.update?operation=newuser&username=servicetest&password=servicetest&profile=Editor

Only the username, password and profile are listed as mandatory in the
documentation. I have tried added other parameters, such as groups and
email but I still get the same error:
YOU DO NOT HAVE THE CORRECT PERMISSIONS TO ACCESS THE FOLLOWING SERVICE
/GEONETWORK-2_10_4/SRV/XML.USER.UPDATE

Thanks

I've done that and restarted geonetwork but it still doesn't work -same

Hi Jo

Apologies I miss the permissions stuff. You need to add the permissions in
the security file. Add the following line for example after this other
line:
https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/blob/2.10.x/web/src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/config-security-mapping.xml#L134

<sec:intercept-url pattern="/srv/[a-z]{2,3}/xml.user.update!?.*" access="
hasRole('UserAdmin')"></sec:intercept-url>
A restart is required.

Hi Jose,

I have already tried that, after Jean suggested it- with no difference.

The only thing I can see that might be a problem is that the geonetwork
installation I'm testing this in, is in an application called
geonetwork-2.10.4 rather than geonetwork, but the referrer error message
comes from the application called geonetwork. I can test this on another
server where the geonetwork installation has the default name.

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jose and Jean,

I've tried this on a second server, where geonetwork is installed in a
standard way (eg in an application named 'geonetwork') and the same problem
occurs.

Thanks

Hi Jo

I'll check later today. Afaik, the app name is not relevant, only with the
security file and the config.xml changes, should work, but will verify.

Just to be sure, after these changes, you're restarting GeoNetwork?

Hi Jose,

Yes, I'm restarting tomcat each time. I've also checked that the
permissions on the two xml files are correct (eg owned by tomcat6)

Thanks

Hi Jo

I have tested and works for me, but I noticed that the URL you put is not
correct:

http://path/to/geonetwork2.10.4/srv/xml.user.update
?operation=newuser&username=servicetest&password=servicetest&profile=Editor

Should include the language path:

http://path/to/geonetwork2.10.4/srv*/eng/*xml.user.update
?operation=newuser&username=servicetest&password=servicetest&profile=Edito
<http://path/to/geonetwork2.10.4/srv/eng/xml.user.update?operation=newuser&username=servicetest&password=servicetest&profile=Editor>

Jose García

Hi Jose,

Yes, I'm restarting tomcat each time. I've also checked that the
permissions on the two xml files are correct (eg owned by tomcat6)

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jo

I'll check later today. Afaik, the app name is not relevant, only with
the security file and the config.xml changes, should work, but will verify.

Just to be sure, after these changes, you're restarting GeoNetwork?

Jose García

Hi Jose and Jean,

I've tried this on a second server, where geonetwork is installed in a
standard way (eg in an application named 'geonetwork') and the same problem
occurs.

Thanks

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jo

Apologies I miss the permissions stuff. You need to add the
permissions in the security file. Add the following line for example after
this other line:
https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/blob/2.10.x/web/src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/config-security-mapping.xml#L134

<sec:intercept-url pattern="/srv/[a-z]{2,3}/xml.user.update!?.*"
access="hasRole('UserAdmin')"></sec:intercept-url>
A restart is required.

Jose García

Hi Jean,

I've done that and restarted geonetwork but it still doesn't work

error.

This is what I have added:

<!-- added in xml.user.update -->
                <sec:intercept-url
pattern="/srv/[a-z]{2,3}/xml.user.update!?.*"
access="hasRole('Administrator')"></sec:intercept-url>
<!-- -->

and I am logged in as an administrator

Thanks

Jo
