[GeoNetwork-users] User documentation for Geonetwork 2.1

Hello,

I think there is a user documentation planned or actually in creation for
the release 2.1 isn't it ?

I find in the geonetwork/trunk/docs/docbook a quickstart docbook and the
content look very interesting !

I would like to know if it will be publish soon or not. Because i have to do
a documentation for an installation planned for the 1 January.

So even if this documentation is not completed, it will be very appreciated
if an xsl can be publish to see the current content on html or pdf format.
Is it possible ?

Thank you very much

Hello,

I have used the docbook document "GeoNetworkv2.1-QuickStartGuide.xml" as
base to create a documentation for a customised installation of Geonetwork.

Regarding what i see creating my own documentation, i have some comment
about the docbook.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) About the geographic search :
  as example :

<listitem>
          <para>If you choose <emphasis role="bold">Spatial search
type</emphasis> <citetitle>is</citetitle> “Country”, only maps for
the selected country will be displayed. In other words, a city map
within that country will not show in the output results.</para>
</listitem>

The term maps is always specified but i think it can concern all kind of
data description.
So maybe “metadata” is better than the term "maps".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) On the when category the part concerning the "Group", "kind" is not
present on the help

A text like that is maybe convenient :

It is possible to limit your queries to only one source of metadata Group
originator,.simply select the category you wish in from the related
drop-down list, otherwise leave this field to Any .

It is also possible to limit your queries to only one kind of
metadata,.simply select the kind you wish (Metadata for consultation or
Template for creation )in from the related drop-down list.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) The steps in more detail (Line 1453 i do not see more detail )
may be more detail if using the advanced search to find a specific template.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4) Entering Metadata for your Map
Line 1726

describe any type of geographic data (verctor...

5) Line 1868

level of the data (<emphasis role="bold">

6) Line 2031

<para>Finally, you can upload the dataset stored on your local
computer and then create a link between data and related
description.

layers, etc. For the latter the distribution in a compressed file is
recommended. You can include the verctor data...

7) Line 2126
<para>For instance, you can fdefine
fdefine >> define
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8) Line 2292
<para>The main part of the page <emphasis role="bold">Import XML
Formatted Metadata</emphasis> that is displayed (figure 7.3 b) is the
<emphasis role="bold">Metadata</emphasis> text area, where the user
can
paste the XML metadata to import. Below this, there is the <emphasis
      role="bold">Type</emphasis> choise,
choise >> Choice
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9) Line 2305
<emphasis role="bold">Insert</emphasis> button
the metadata is imported into the system; please note that all links

      external files, for istance
istance >> instance
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10) Line 3274
<entry>Titel</entry>
titel >> title
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In addition of this corrections i think that a part concerning the thesaurus
for the user during the metadata creation is missing.
It is nearly present on the administration documentation. it may be a good
thing to integrate it on the user documentation.
