[GeoNetwork-users] wfs-wms

Hi to all,
in my metadata catalog i insert some
wms and wfs layer, those are stored in
a geoserver behind user/password.
I observed that if i'm connected with that user/password
in the home page of geoserver, i'm able to view the wms
in the geonetwork map viewer, if i disconnect that user from
geoserver i'm not more able to see the wms layer,
how is it possible? is there a way to put into the wms/wfs
url the user and password to be able to see the wms layer in
geonetwork map viewer?
...or i made a mistake?

Regards

Eugenio

hello eugenio,

this is the normal way the ows works! the wms of geoserver has a http
authentication around them. only if you are logged in by your browser you can
see the layer. the ows work with the normal http binding. the browser opens a
window if you try to access a http authenticated web site or webservice. you
give your credentials and the browser store them in his configuration. as long
as they are stored there, you can use the webservice. if they will be lost you
must log in again.
your idea of give your credentials by url is not good - they will be open for
everyone :frowning: .
the wms client in geonetwork is openlayers - ist a javascript client. this
renders the wms directly - it calls the getmap request from your browser - if
you want another handling, you need a security proxy mechanism or s.th.
similar.

armin
