I'm new to geonetwork. I just read an article on how to use mapserver as a WMS server instead of the integrated geoserver. My question is why do you prefer using mapserver instead of geoserver? Is there any significant differences? Geonetwork has already supported WMS, WFS, and WCS. Why do you need to use another tools to implement those services if they are already there?
To be specific, it is GeoServer that implements WFS/MS/CS, not GeoNetwork. They can be linked but are fundamentally independent.
Some people like to use MapServer instead of GeoServer because they have different strengths and weaknesses. In some situations, MapServer will be faster and more robust. In others, GeoServer will be. Some people already have experience with configuring or developing against one of the other. And sometimes people have other constraints on their choices-- perhaps their IT staff would prefer to support a J2EE app like GeoServer, or the opposite.
If you have nothing pressing on your mind suggesting that MapServer is a good addition to your installation, it may not be.
