Hi All,
I was very interested to see Archie Warnock is working on GeoNetwork. I have
used Archie's Z39.50 software and communicated with him many times. I am
*very* confident that his work will be of excellent quality. In general I am
impressed with all the GeoNetwork software developments.
On a similar matter I wonder if GeoNetwork will be striving into the SRW
(Search and Retrieve Web) and SRU (Search and Retrieve URL) directions. This
work overcomes many of the difficulties and barriers that some managers have
with using the existing Z39.50 protocol. My experience with the Australian
Spatial Data Directory (http://asdd.ga.gov.au/asdd/) is that distributed
Z39.50 searches are usually much faster (up to 10 times) than distributed
searching in RDBMS. Hence it will be very effective to continue in this
direction.
Thanks.
John
