I've noticed on the commits mailing list
(http://archive.geoserver.codehaus.org/scm) that we do
have a couple of commits on trunk that did not get into
1.5.x.
Now, shouldn't we use 1.5.x for all 1.5.x release needs?
This means things should be done there and forward port
to trunk, at least until we have a stable 1.5.0.
What do you think?

Gosh I hope so! I've been using the 1.5.x branch for building the latest 2.3.x compatible geoserver and was hoping that all fixes were heading there.
I definitely think the 1.5.x branch should be stable development, and things should be forward-ported to trunk. At some point I figure trunk will go to another geotools branch and things will diverge a little bit (probably what you mean by "at least until we have a stable 1.5.0").
