Hi,
I had a try with bin-zip on Windows, checked GetCapabilities and made some simple tests for a few layers with WMS, WFS and WCS with no issues.

Having fixed some last minute issues with the build there are now new test artifacts available for testing at https://build.geoserver.org/view/geoserver/job/geoserver-release/274/artifact/distribution/2.17.0/
Please test them and let me know how it goes, especially if you are a Windows or Mac user
