Hi,
I'm completely new to GeoServer, and I have the following task:
I need to create a Map with an additional Layer (one that is not in the
actual WMS-Service).
This additional Layer could be created from a list of vertices (e.g. in case
of a route) or a shapefile
(e.g. a user generated catchment area).
How can I do this?
My approach is, to create a "DefaultWebMapService" to call the WMS-Service
and add the "manually created" Layer, but how can I do this?
And is this the right way?
Another question is: what's the best Docu to get started ?
The APIDOC is nice, but when I doen't know, what the Objects are for, it's
hard to get into the whole thing.
Thanks
Bernhard Gruber

Hi Bernhard,
It sounds like what you are wanting to do is add layers dynamically? Without going through the user interface? If that is the case we use the REST configuration API for this.
http://docs.geoserver.org/1.7.x/user/extensions/rest/index.html
There are some examples there that show how to upload a shapefile.
