[Geoserver-devel] Anyone using ResourceInfo aliases collection

Hi,

Even it is a difficult thing I would say that it would have been better to reach some consensus about https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/wiki/GSIP-127 instead of deferring it. Obviously we couldn’t simply deny suspicious characters because of backward compatibility and because in some places standards allow. However, based on my reading of open JIRA tickets users have quite a lot trouble with those. Here comes a beginning of list about items to solve

  • Define which are good and which are suspicious characters in names of workspaces, stores, layers, layer groups, styles, attributes of layers, functions, processes.

  • How they affect the validity of metadata of services and configuration through UI and REST: json and XML

  • How to escape or substitute suspicious characters in REST json, REST XML, when using cascaded services and also within normal incoming http GET and POST requests

  • Sketch user documentation

I would like to see https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/pull/933 discussion on handling invalid style names sorted before killing this alias idea.

The original intention was to have multiple names for a single resource, but it never got used. +1 on killing it.

The fact that I do no know what it was for indicates +1

What was it for?

Since I reported that bug, at some point in time I knew what it was… but today I don’t!

Ah, growing old…

Cheers
