Good day,
I've switched these posts from the user to the devel list. Let me know if I should switch back. What would you think about allowing users to add a block of KML code to be appended to the beginning or end of a parsed KML file? Eg. have Geoserver look for a KML file in the featuretype directory like the ".ftl" files?
This would allow the API and GE users to include things like screen overlays, tours or other KML features that are not necessarily feature dependant in the KML request. At the moment the workaround to access features like these is to host and parse separate KML files which are web accessible.
Cheers,

Hi Damian,
Seems like a good idea to me.
Basically we could come up with two more templates, perhaps named "header.ftl" and "footer.ftl" or something like that. ACtually we already have the same for GetFeatureInfo templates. Perhaps it could be adapted to KML output.
Regardless it should not be too hard to implement. If you are interested I can point you in the right direction code wise. That or create a new feature request in the bug tracker.
