[Geoserver-devel] Axis order in "http://www.opengis.net/gml/srs/epsg.xml#4326" syntax

Hi Martin,
fiddlig with the axis order issue I noticed that the
"http://www.opengis.net/gml/srs/epsg.xml#4326"
syntax seems to disregard the axis order hints (forcexy)
as well as the URN syntax.

Is this required by some OGC spec again? Oh btw, whilst
I got confirmation from OGC about the URN axis order
issue, I'm still lacking a document I can refer to that
states so (I hope that same document may says something
about the http://www.opengis.net/gml/srs/epsg.xml#4326
form as well).

Cheers
Andrea

Yes I assumed that the requirements were the same than for the URN
syntax, but I have no document to back this assumption (or I don't
remember any). We need to look at what the common usage is, and we can
adapt to that.

If the "http://" syntax has been introduced about in same time than WMS
1.3 or WFS 1.1, there is chance that the requirement are the same than
for the URN syntax.

The only documents I have found are the WMS 1.3 specification which
clearly state the "EPSG:4326" behavior (without making special cases for
the URN or HTTP forms), and "Definition identifier URNs in OGC
namespace" at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/bp which doesn't
said anything about the axis order... So I have no document neither. I'm
basically in the same situation than you: I take my words from various
(more than one) OGC spec authors that I have meet. I asked them about
"URN" but not "HTTP" however...

That was by design; we wanted a way to get the real meal deal - and the uri syntax has always been strictly defined.
