[Geoserver-devel] Backporting monitoring improvement

Hi,
I’ve recently committed on master an improvement on monitoring that allows to record the hit/miss
and miss reason for GWC request and direct integration requests.

It’s a small change, but formally it’s an improvement, not a bug fix, so I did not backport it to stable yet.
Two questions:

  • Anyone worried about a backport in due time (20+ days from now)
  • Anyone worried about a backport sooner than that?
    In the meantime we are testing it on a demo server that deploys master daily.

Four days, no answer, I guess nobody is particularly concerned.
Not even with a backport sooner than the one month?

Catching up on email, the monitoring api is not heavily used so I am not surprise at the lack of response.

I think as long as the addition is done in a way that does not break backwards compatibility doing a back port is fine. Do you have a pressing reason to ask for a back port sooner? Perhaps to get the change information the next stable release …

That sounds useful. Backport in due time is fine. Do you have a need for an earlier backport? How much earlier? 19 days or now? I have no objection if you have a need, but, as you note, it is an excursion from the rules.

Yes, that was the idea. See above, for us monitoring (gs-monitor-core) is a
important module and
we're looking forward to get the extra information, an unexpected about of
"tiled=true" request
that are not hitting the cache might point to a mis-configuration on the
client side (gridset) or
on the server side (mis-configured filter parameter for example)

Andrea I think this is a low risk change and would be in support of you back porting the change for the next release.
