[Geoserver-devel] blog post for 2.0-beta2

Hi all,

Those who have blog access and want to help out with the blog post for the 2.0-beta2 release announcement here is a first draft I just whipped up:

http://blog.geoserver.org/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=230

Please edit / chime in with things that you think should be mentioned or things you don't like about the draft

For those who do not have access just let one of us know and we will be happy to get you set up with an account.

Mike, once the post is ready to go can you do your usual magic of polishing and publishing?

Is there a "what is app-schema/complex features" page we could link to?

Thanks,

There are a couple of pages on the geotools and geoserver wikis but they are kind of all over the place.

We should probably point to the tutorial that Ben recently did:

http://docs.geoserver.org/trunk/user/tutorials/app-schema/index.html

But yeah, something more introductory might be nice, Ben, do you have anything in mind?

This start of the tutorial is a the best introduction we have at this time. I plant to refactor these docs to make a manual plus tutorial.
http://docs.geoserver.org/trunk/user/tutorials/app-schema/app-schema-tutorial.html

Justin, are you talking about a better introduction to complex features or to app-schema?

Remember, you can have a simple feature app-schema. GeoServer "simple features" are a misnomer; they would be better described as "auto-schema features" or "inferred-schmea features".

More or less yeah, basically what it is from the point of view of a total layman.

Yeah, this is part of what we have to do is start socializing these ideas with the wider community, and nailing down proper terminology. Basically this involves a dump of your brain into something coherent

Mike, I added a link to the app-schema tutorial.

I intend to write a better app-schema/complex features introduction in the next few weeks. I think the tutorial will do for the blog post.

I note that the blog post has still not been published, a week after the software was released.

Yeah, we have sort of been slacking on the whole announcing the release front. Mike, is the blog post ready to go? Do you have time to announce? If not I can take that in this week.

Thanks for the note. Clearly I dropped the ball on this. Post is groomed and published. Sorry for the delay!
