Folks,
I downloaded geoserver-1.3.0-RC4 from codehaus, created Java project in
Eclipse, added build.xml to Eclipse Ant view, and created build.properties
with appropriate entries. However, when I execute release-all, etc., I get
this Ant failure:

Hi Efren,
It seems to be looking for the directory {geoserver.install.dir}/cite/confUserBasic/data
It should be there if you have an updated version from SVN, I don't think it has been changed in a long time, so I think you are just missing the directory.

Brent,
You are correct. I originally downloaded the src's via TortoiseSVN;
however, all of the .svn dir's where making Eclipse really slow while
executing the Ant tasks. I have no idea why; I tried adding exclude's
**/.svn/** here and there to build.xml but still to slow. Then, I decided
to download src.zip from Codehaus and I take it that didn't contain the
cite/conf* dir's.

If you are using subclipse, that is making your eclipse really slow. I recommend (justin too) that you don't use subclipse. We just use commandline subversion and Tortise (windows client). Tortise integrates directly with windows explorer and is really neat, fast too.
The release-all build task in ant is a slow one. It does a lot, especially when generating the javadocs.
I noticed now as well that the src.zip release does not contain the cite directory. For some reason it is commented out in the build task. There also seems to be some legacy <exclude name="*CVS*/*" /> tags that were from the days when we used CVS. I'm guessing they should now say SVN. Although looking at the src.zip distro the .svn directories are not included, I'm guessing because they are hidden.
I will uncomment the line that copies over the cite directory to the src.zip file, as it is needed if the person wants to do a build themselves.
