[Geoserver-devel] can't install geoserver.war

Hi Jody,
I have found the login user/pass in the code. i can now login. But, i have found a problem with your wms server. When i send a request for the capabilities, for example:

   http://metis/geoserver/wms?request=GetCapabilities&service=WMS

I get back the capabilities ok, but the xml is not valid. I have attached the capabilities xml file, for you to have a look. Were you aware that the xml you return does not validate against the dtd?

Try validating yourself. There are many errors.

Thanks,
Jamie

P.S. i would like to get involved, and help you guys out, but time has been a problem for me lately. Which IDE do you guys use?

Hi,
I have used your xml file you sent, but i still get the error in tomcat. I did notice that if i comment out the JSPCompiler servlet in the web.xml file, I no longer get that error, but then, of coarse, when i try to run the webapp, it cannot find the JSPCompiler servlet. Any ideas?

Sorry man it is really late for me, you can skip the JSPCompiler and go directly to geoserver/welcome.do
And the jsps will compile as you use them for the first time.

I am afraid we have been testing with Resin, perhaps the JSPCompiler does not work with tomcat.

No I was not aware. My focus/project is on WFS at some point I would love it if someone could teach me how to make a WMS request and get back a small map.

WMS is a recent addition to GeoServer and is not passing cite tests yet (probably due to reasons like the one you mentioned).

Darn. I too haven't validated in awhile - though I definitely had it
working at some point.

I think most of us are on eclipse right now, though I sometimes just
bust emacs and ant. The easiest way to get involved, which you can start
right now, is sign yourself up on jira, at
http://jira.codehaus.org/secure/BrowseProject.jspa?id=10311 Then you can
report bugs like this, but putting them there ensures that we'll keep
track of them, as right now it's easy to forget if they're just on the
email list. When you have time to actually take issues I can add you to
the geoserver-users group on jira, and wwe'll be able to assign them to
you. You are also welcome to take most any open issue, just let jira know
that you started it so others at least get in touch with you if they want
to do it. But yeah, just letting us know about bugs is a huge help. The
login stuff would be a great little first task if you feel like doing
more.

best regards,

Chris
