Hi,
as of today the CSS module on master has been switched to the gt-css engine.
Along with it, the user interface has been refactored a bit to use less vertical
screen estate, and syntax highlight/formatting via codemirror has been added
as well, see the following screenshot:
The switch to the gt-css module comes with a number of improvements:
- The module is maintaned
- The download size is significantly smaller (700k instead of 6.8MB)
- Large CSS styles with lots of intra-rule combinations are (in my tests) translated to SLD in a matter
of seconds instead of minutes/hours - Evaluation of the styles at runtime is optimized a bit as the target SLD is cached, and it’s using the
new “exclusive” evaluation mode that stops the renderer at the first matched rule - A few issues that have been open for a while have been fixed as the effect of the switch
Of course, it’s not all roses… the code is brand new, tested only by yours truly, so I expect
surprises as people start using it with their real world styles.
Starting with tomorrow’s (Jan 7th) nightly build the new module will be available for everybody.
I’d appreciate it if some of the heavy users around here could give it a kick before the beta,
when the rest of the community will be exposed to it (and we’ll make sure the announcement
invites people to test the new module)
