Hello,
I am trying to start geoserver on Fedora Core 3 but the following error appears:
[root@anonymised.com bin]# pwd
/geoserver/bin
[root@anonymised.com bin]# ./startup.sh
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.mortbay.jetty.Server

I didn’t start the jetty (and don’t know if it is necessary)
The error is in the last line of the startup.sh script and it try to load a jar file that doesn’t have the correspondent directory: org.mortbay.jetty
Please tell me something about my error. I need to star the server as soon as possible.

Sound's like you're missing a the org.mortbay.jetty.jar. Do you have a
lib directory? I think I've heard reports that it maybe didn't get in
one of the releases? If there's not a geoserver/lib directory, or not
a geoserver/lib/jetty (or jetty/org.mortbay.jetty.jar) then download a
previous version of GeoServer, and copy over the full lib directory.
If you need quicker help I just jumped on
irc://irc.freenode.net#geotools, and will do what I can to get you
started up quickly.
