I’s looking at some improvements for the Windows installer of GeoServer.
For now I’m thinking about the following features:
-
Better upgrade path of a single GeoServer installation
- Remember ‘Service’ and ‘Port’ settings – ENHANCEMENT
- Uninstall previous version, before installing the new version – BEHAVIOR CHANGE
- Non-versioned Windows Service Name (for easier use in script/batch files) – BEHAVIOR CHANGE
-
Named GeoServer installations – ENHANCEMENT
- This would allow you to install multiple instances of GeoServer on the same machine, with each having its own upgrade path:
- Will required multiple registry keys
- Instances selection/specification
- Multiple service names
- IP-Port specification per instance (available)
- When starting the installation, initially the ‘single instance’ setup will be used (the way the setup is working now).
- This would allow you to install multiple instances of GeoServer on the same machine, with each having its own upgrade path:
But before I start with this, I was wondering if there are objections to these features and/or changes.
And regarding the instances, if there is some actual need!
