[Geoserver-devel] Extend Windows Installer features

Hi,

Installer should also have an option to install Geoserver as Windows service with 64 bit Java.

I’s looking at some improvements for the Windows installer of GeoServer.

For now I’m thinking about the following features:

o Remember ‘Service’ and ‘Port’ settings – ENHANCEMENT

o Uninstall previous version, before installing the new version – BEHAVIOR CHANGE

o Non-versioned Windows Service Name (for easier use in script/batch files) – BEHAVIOR CHANGE

o This would allow you to install multiple instances of GeoServer on the same machine, with each having its own upgrade path:

§ Will required multiple registry keys

§ Instances selection/specification

§ Multiple service names

§ IP-Port specification per instance (available)

o When starting the installation, initially the ‘single instance’ setup will be used (the way the setup is working now).

But before I start with this, I was wondering if there are objections to these features and/or changes.

And regarding the instances, if there is some actual need!

Hello Jukka,

At this point only 32-bit is supported on Windows, as there’s only a 32-bit service wrapper (zie ‘wrapper.exe’).

I don’t have any experience with the service wrapper itself (only with the installer).

So if you can help with acquiring a 64-bit service wrapper, I could then look into including this into the setup.
