[Geoserver-devel] Extend Windows Installer features

Hi,

The community edition of the wrapper is not available for 64 bit Windows https://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/doc/english/download.jsp. However, I do not really know if there is continuous interaction between the wrapper and JVM once the service is installed so that they must be of the same architecture. Perhaps it if possible to use 32 bit wrapper and still run the service with 64 bit JVM. But if I remember right the user must select 32 bit JVM for running the Geoserver installer and switching to 64 bit JVM would require some tweaking if it is possible. I try to find some time for a few tests.

This comes actual with Java 9 and above because they are not available as 32 bit versions.

Hello Jukka,

At this point only 32-bit is supported on Windows, as there’s only a 32-bit service wrapper (zie ‘wrapper.exe’).

I don’t have any experience with the service wrapper itself (only with the installer).

So if you can help with acquiring a 64-bit service wrapper, I could then look into including this into the setup.

Installer should also have an option to install Geoserver as Windows service with 64 bit Java.

I’m not seeing any limits for the 64-bit version (in comparison to the 32-bit version).

So maybe it’s possible to create a 64-bit setup (not sure howto at this point ) and add the 64-bit wrapper to it instead of the 32-bit…

Check the download page though:

"*1: 64-bit Windows versions of the Java Service Wrapper are not currently
being made available in the Community Edition."

Looks like something else needs to be used. Wondering what Tomcat is using,
for example.
