[Geoserver-devel] Extending layer specific catalog to layer groups

Hi,
right now it’s possible to make a workspace specific request to a url like:

http://localhost:8080/geoserver/topp/ows?service=wms&version=1.3.0&request=GetCapabilities

and layer specific request by adding the layer in the request, like this:

http://localhost:8080/geoserver/topp/states/ows?service=wms&version=1.3.0&request=GetCapabilities

It’s however not possible to get the same for a layer group. I intend to make the current LocalLayer
machinery more general and make it into a LocalPublished (LayerInfo extends PublishedInfo)
and thus allow to have a “group specific catalog” too.

For groups that are in “single” mode we’d be listing only the group in the capabilities document (allowing
however access to the whole set of layers in the group for all other requests, as it’s not possible to run
them otherwise, groups are exploded in their component layers during parsing),
while for groups that are in tree mode the entire tree would be published in the caps document too.

If there are no particular objections I’ll start working on it tomorrow.

Hi,
btw, I’m not 100% clear on the freeze situation yet, if the freeze is still in place when
the pull request is done, I’ll just avoid merging it until the freeze is lifted

Thanks Andrea, sounds like a sensible change (from a consistency point of view).

It looks like spring 4 is ready for core, extensions and most community modules (geofence excepted).
