[Geoserver-devel] Fixing Confluence search

Hi there. So as everyone knows, the Confluence search feature on our wiki isn't (to put it mildly) as helpful as it could be*. I am keen on fixing this, although I wonder if fixing the Confluence search itself would be worthwhile. As an alternative, perhaps we should investigate building in a Google site search. (Personally, when I need to find something on geoserver.org, I go to Google and append "site:geoserver.org" to my request.) In lieu of the upcoming semi-move to Sphinx, I wonder if this would be advantageous to pursue this now.

* Try searching for "Tropical Storm" in Confluence, and then doing the same in Google appending "site:geoserver.org" and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks,

I agree with the sentiment, I usually don't even add the site:geoserver.org as most OGC related searches have a hit on our
site anyways (good!).
And also agree with the solution, I mean, it should not be that
complex to implement, wouldn't it?
We can start by having a non themed version of the results, and if
there is time we can think about making it styled according to
our site (provided that this is possible).
But yeah, search is an important tool, so I'm very much +1 on fixing
it so that it works (and then eventually spend some time to make
it look good too).

Cheers
Andrea

Thanks Andrea. Chris Patterson sent me this link for Google Custom Search:

I'll look into this and see if it fits our needs.

If anyone else has any suggestions, please vocalize.

Three is a button to hit to rebuild the index on the administration page - have you clicked that recently?

We have done that before by modifying the site template; I actually find the confluence search useful in a few context (searching just the IRC logs for example).
