… you might have noticed Google Java Format does not work anymore.
It’s happening because this new version of IntelliJ runs on its own internal Java 17,
and this triggers package access violations in the formatter code.
The issue is known: https://github.com/google/google-java-format/issues/787
Simplest workaround: go into “Help”, “Edit Custom VM Options”, and add all of these:
–add-opens=java.base/java.lang=ALL-UNNAMED
–add-opens=java.base/java.util=ALL-UNNAMED
–add-exports=jdk.compiler/com.sun.tools.javac.api=ALL-UNNAMED
–add-exports=jdk.compiler/com.sun.tools.javac.file=ALL-UNNAMED
–add-exports=jdk.compiler/com.sun.tools.javac.parser=ALL-UNNAMED
–add-exports=jdk.compiler/com.sun.tools.javac.tree=ALL-UNNAMED
–add-exports=jdk.compiler/com.sun.tools.javac.util=ALL-UNNAMED
and then restart.
