[Geoserver-devel] GeoFence repository migrated

Hi,
I think I’m done migrating the GeoFence repository to the GeoServer organization, you
can find the modules here:
https://github.com/geoserver/geofence

And the migrated wiki here:
https://github.com/geoserver/geofence/wiki

I still have to integrate the GeoServer community module that will integrate the GeoFence
rules in the GeoServer auth subsystem, but even with what I have so far there a couple of open questions:

  • What should we do about issue reporting, using github, or do you think a “geofence”
    category in Jira would be more approriate?
  • GeoSolutions has currently builds for the original GeoFence repo, shall we move our
    builds pointing to the new repo, and keep on hosting the downloads for GeoFence,
    or shall we move those to the main build server?

Tough to say. From what I have seen GeoFence looks like it's own full blown
project... not sure it makes sense to start tracking them in the main jira
(which is already busy enough with traffic), aside from issues with the
community module of course. I would say github issues.

How "heavy" is the build? The main build server builds out a number of the
upstream community projects so I don't see adding another as a problem
unless it is going to require a lot of overhead? I assume GeoFence depends
on GeoTools? Does that mean it follows the same branching model GeoServer
does? Question will we need three jobs instead of one for it?

Yes, it has a dependency on GeoTools, and it's actually using a old version
of it (the usage is pretty light as far as I know).
The network protocol hides this dependency, and makes it possible to use
the same version of GeoFence for
all supported GeoServer versions.

Long story short, I believe just one build will be enough for the time
being, we can give it more structure later if needed I guess?
