[Geoserver-devel] GeoServer 0.94 released

Geoserver 0.94 was released to sourceforge for download on friday. The
two major milestones of this release are the addition of the LockFeature
operation, and support of multiple namespaces. Additionally, the new
namespace support brought about the re-writing of the backend
configuration, making it much more flexible. This allows new user control
over logging, maximum features returned, and the formatting of the xml
output. Bugs from the last release were also fixed.

Unfortunately the documentation has not yet been updated to reflect the
changes in the latest release, so this week will be spent redoing the
documentation, testing even more, and putting in any bug fixes that our
user's discover. A new release with these updates should be out within a
week or two, but most of the code should not change.

If you have any confusion with the installation, don't hesitate to email
the list, as other people are probably having similar problems. It is
pretty complex to get everything set up exactly right. Shapefile support
should hopefully be coming soon, which should make the process a bit
easier, bypassing the postgresql/postgis install, which can be a daunting
task. Also, we've made every attempt to make the new configuration
completely backwards compatible, so if you have an existing geoserver
installation, the new one should work fine. So please let us know if you
run into any issues with it, as a lot of the internals have changed. Be
sure to read the README and RELEASE_NOTES files for more information on
the latest changes to geoserver.
