[Geoserver-devel] GeoServer 1.1beta Released

GeoServer 1.1beta has been released on sourceforge.net. It incorporates
all the latest improvements that we've been working away on.
Unfortunately not everything is _quite_ ready for prime-time, which is the
reason for the beta status. We're hoping to get 1.1.0 out in two or three
weeks, but due to the number of internal changes made we thought it was a
good idea to get it out to the user community first. The hope is that you
all will download it and try it out, reporting back bugs and issues that
may have been introduced.

The configuration has also changed around a bit, to make room for a new
architectures (that allow easy wms integration) and new data model (which
is quite a bit faster than the old). For more information check the
readme, at the root geoserver directory when you unpack the code, or at
http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=202534. It also
gives more information on the status of the beta. The user docs have not
yet been updated for 1.1, so the readme is the best source of information.
If we've missed anything just email this list or geoserver@anonymised.com

The core operations of GeoServer should be very solid with postgis, but
transactional capabilities could use more testing. Oracle, Shapefile and
the new ArcSde data store have been well tested in geotools, but need more
testing with GeoServer. The WMS could also use some good testing, as I
personally did not have a chance to test it much at all. We currently
just offer SVG, with no SLD styling, but that code is written in gt2wms,
so it should be integrated shortly. So please, download the release, play
with it, and report back on what you don't like and on any bugs that you
find. Using the JIRA task tracker at
http://jira.codehaus.org/secure/BrowseProject.jspa?id=10311 is the best
way to ensure that the issues get addressed. Be sure to sign up for an
account, or else you will not be able to select the GeoServer project.
