[Geoserver-devel] GeoServer 2.1 beta anyone?

Hi,
I'm wondering if it's time to start releasing betas
of GeoServer 2.1.

The stability is not too bad, I'm aware of just one
issue with the fast coverage path with paletted images...
do you know of others?

And there is a truckload of new features that people
might enjoy trying out.

What do you think?

Oh, I know we don't use to make CITE tests on beta
releases but I guess it would be nice to have
CITE tests running on trunk as well.
I'm also aware that the space on the build server
is in pretty tight availability, so I have no
idea if that is actually doable or not

Cheers
Andrea

Beta sounds fine; I am releasing GeoTools milestone releases so if you are releasing a meta let me know and we can avoid duplicate tags.

Andrea I think it is time to start releasing betas of GeoServer 2.1; we have foss4g coming up with most of the deadlines for materials slated for the first week of July. Live dvd (do we care?) slated for early July feature freeze etc.

I know there is GeoServer workshops - is it going to run with a copy of GeoServer 2.1? (or gave we been too successful in back porting the good bits

Actually no, we haven't been backporting much this time.
At the same time I prefer to run a workshop on stable, no surprises
software, so I'd prefer to run it on 2.0.x actually (just my 2c)

My findings on running workshops in the past has been that while it is always very tempting to run on the latest it is not worth the hassle, and often embarrassment of things not working. Stable is definitely the way to go imho.

As for getting a release of 2.1 out I think it would be a good idea. I am not sure how the release manager hat has been tossed around as of late but if you need someone to step up to do the actual release I think i can find some spare cycles to do so.
