I was able to fix my shiny new geoserver-2.7.x build on ares by removing -T2 from the maven command line. It now takes an hour. But it passes.
-T2 builds up to two modules concurrently. It also acts as an unintended nondeterministic detector for non-thread-safe test fixtures, and makes maven log output nearly incomprehensible. But it makes maven much faster too.

Yes, the -T2 was added because build times were unbearably slow. Any clue
as to which tests were failing due to the concurrency?

Hi Ben,
as far as I can see there was a single build failing, and the one test failed in it had this assertion fail:
File dd = getTestData().getDataDirectoryRoot();
File wfs = new File(dd, “wfs”);
File transform = new File(wfs, “transform”);
if (transform.exists()) {
FileUtils.deleteDirectory(transform);
}
assertTrue(transform.mkdirs());
So it’s trying to make sure a certain directory in the test data dir exists but is empty.
I’m not sure why it failed the first time, but since each tests runs in its own randomly generated
data directory, I don’t see how this can be related to concurrency either
