I've just noticed that the OpenGeo repository is marked as snapshot
and not release in the root pom. Is there any reason release
artefacts aren't being deployed there (other than me not doing so)?
Is there another appropriate public repo for them?

Hey Mark,
Yes we should be deploying non snapshot versions to this repository. At one point the release process involved uploading artifacts to the codehaus maven repo, but that never really stuck.
One of the issues is getting access to the repo for developers.
Arne: suggestions?
Once we do we should update the release docs to include the step to upload the non snapshot artifacts.

Hey,
there's an htpasswd file on repo.opengeo.org that regulates access. You can just add (trusted) users to that file.
Don't remember the exact location, but a grep for AuthUserFile in /etc/httpd/* -R will tell you.

Great thanks for the info Arne.
So anyone who wants an account please just let me know, or even better send me an htpasswd file with your encrypted password in it.
