[Geoserver-devel] GeoServer releace process upgrade, reviving the thread

Hi,
the last week thread got stale and lost in too many suggestions.

My suggestion:

  • if you have an idea for the release process please lay out a
schedule in this wiki page, so that we can see how it looks like over time (contact
    me to get write access)
    http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/GeoTools+and+GeoServer+release+schedule
  • next week we vote on the suggestions available, maybe each one of us gives a preference
order, we sum the votes, and the winner gets turned into a GSIP

While discussion is fundamental, too much discussion and no action gets us nowhere,
let’s try to be practical and move on

Cheers
Andrea

Andrea I like your proposal, don’t mind which schedule we do (both have advantages).

I especially like the possibility of a year of stable/maintenance release for GeoTools as it will cut down some of the IP overhead I am looking at for location tech.

Do we need a change proposal for this, or a +1 on the email good enough.

Right, me neither, but I would like to see the people that voiced some
possible variants
to try and lay them down so that we can all see them in detail.

Right, the time boxed proposal would have to be voted by both communities
in order to keep the releases of the two in synch.

Okay lets write up the proposal(s) then, and see if we can set this up. We can announce as part of the next stable release for a bit more impact.
