I didnt change the application location of geoserver. It should be in
http://localhost:8080/geoserver/…
I've checked the web.xml file and the jetty config. I also tested it in
Jetty and the .war in Tomcat - both of them correctly put it in
/geoserver/. I also tested the mapbuilder stuff, and its correctly
working.
I dont know how it could be in the wrong place - whats your setup like?
(if you deployed using the WAR - was the WAR called geoserver.war or
geoserver-1.3.0-beta3.war?)

It wasn't me, it was a user. I imagine that the war was called
geoserver-1.3.0-beta3.war.
Oh one thing that we need to do (yes, this is in the category of 'my
bad's, implicit things I never documented) is make sure that
geoserver.war is in a zip (I usually put a readme with it). Why?
Because there's a bit of a bug in sourceforge. All your releases go to
the same download folder, so if you name them the same thing (even if
they are in different releases) they overwrite what came before. So if
there is a 1.3.0-beta3 geoserver.war, and one for 1.3.0-rc1 then when
you try to get the beta3 you will actually get the rc1. Not that this
is a huge deal, since people generally want the latest release, but it
can be an issue when we have stable vs. unstable branches, so people
don't just randomly get whatever we uploaded last.
So yes, it should be in the ant release-war - put it in a zip file, with
the version name.
