[Geoserver-devel] GeoTools / GeoServer Meeting 2012-07-23

GeoTools / GeoServer Meeting 2012-07-23

Apologies: Andrea Aime, Jody Garnett (concurrent osgeo meeting)

Attending:

Justin Deoliveira
Ben Caradoc-Davies
Gabriel Roldán
Simone Giannecchini
Jody Garnett (sort of)

Agenda
-----------

* 2.2-RC2/2.1.5
* geotoolkit
* geoserver psc refresh
* gsip 69

2.2-RC2
------------

This week or next, based on community feedback. To be performed by Victor.

2.1.5
-------

GeoSolutions. With fixes for BIgTIFF.

- Bigger question: When should we mothball the maintenance branch in terms of release?

GeoToolkit
----------------

Questions for Jody:

* what date did we officially hand over copyright? I think when the project was accepted (this is the earliest the board took responsibility for the project) or when the first code contribution agreement was signed.
* what date did Martin mark? Before or after copyright reassignment? I think about the same time; he had already started his "geotidy" fork at that point.
* who owned copyright before osgeo? GeoTools PMC (but that was not a legal entity) so it still rested with the individual contributors is my understanding of it.

GR/BCD - inclined to say yes
JD/SG - inclined to say no
JG - considering relicense of GeoTools to something equally aggressive

* Let's figure out our official response before responding

GeoServer PSC refresh
----------------------------------

Mark was going to attend this evening and ask about continuing; in conversation with him he was not feeling like he was pulling his weight.

Ben you managed to talk to RobA?

Inactive members:

* Rob
* Mark
* Christian ?

Potential members:

* Rini Angreani (BCD)
* Christian?
* Idea: can we pull members from the user lists; including other languages (spanish etc...).

Users on the PSC?
ACTION: Ben to ask geoserver-users list whether they would like a user representive on the PSC.

GSIP 69
------------

* Feedback welcome
* Andrea back next week will comment

Next meeting: 6 August 2012 at 13:00 UTC.

Sounds good… Tentatively we will be performing the Geotools and GWC release this Friday(27th of July) and all announcements will be made on Monday. GeoServer will also be released on Friday pending how the release for Geotools went J

Please ensure all broken builds are fixed before CITE test runs on Thursday as we will be depending on those build.

Thanks everyone J

I am not aware of any issues getting in the way of an 8.0 release.

Let us make this an 8.0 release; we always have the option of an 8.0.1 if GeoServer or GeoWebCache need another kick at the can.

From geoServer’s pov there will probably be a 2-3 week period before final 2.2 goes out at which time I imagine there could potentially be things have to change down in geotools so we may need to release an 8.1 when we actually get to geoserver 2.2. As long as their is no issue with that i am fine with calling this 8.0.

Hi Victor,

we should be good on the gwc side. Pegged 2.2.x to 1.3-RC4 and backported the needed fixes to geoserver.
I’m waiting on the 2.2.x hudson build right now but it worked just fine on my dev box with an empty mvn repository. Fingers crossed nonetheless.

Lets talk tomorrow (today?) Friday if there’s anything else to do.

Cheers,
Gabriel

we should be good on the gwc side. Pegged 2.2.x to 1.3-RC4 and backported the needed fixes to geoserver.

I’m waiting on the 2.2.x hudson build right now but it worked just fine on my dev box with an empty mvn repository. Fingers crossed nonetheless.
