Hi,
Sorry for cross posting on other lists too.
I’m getting a similar error while building geoserver 2.1.
I have noticed that your error and mine are both referring to:
maven-metadata-maven2-repository.dev.java.net.xml
Today I have discovered that the whole java.net has been shutdown since the cooling system of their data center isn’t working anymore.
A few hours ago, trying accessing any java.net page resulted in:
## Error 503–Service Unavailable |
---|
### From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol – HTTP/1.1:#### 10.5.4 503 Service Unavailable The server is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay. If known, the length of the delay may be indicated in a Retry-After header. If no Retry-After is given, the client SHOULD handle the response as it would for a 500 response. > Note: The existence of the 503 status code does not imply that a server must use it when becoming overloaded. Some servers may wish to simply refuse the connection. |

Right now, they have updated the java.net home to redirect to Oracle home page.
I guess that maven is trying to get metadata from java.net and it is instead getting back the Oracle index page or something similar…
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Daniele

All of the data generated in your IT infrastructure is seriously valuable.
Why? It contains a definitive record of application performance, security
threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Splunk takes this data and makes
sense of it. IT sense. And common sense.
