[Geoserver-devel] [Geotools-gt2-users] GeoTools SNAPSHOT

Hey Community Members,

I have sent this email to both the Devl and Users list as I think it may be a Maven repository or configuration issue.

We are working on a project that requires several GeoTools lib SNAPSHOTS, we are noticing that out local maven snapshots are not always updating with the latest SNAPSHOT release. We are currently using Maven 3.0.3 on both windows and Mac environments. Additionally we are noticing this same issue with uDig GeoTools dependency.

Are other developers experiencing similar issues?

Thoughts: We have noticed that GeoTools is deploying to an old Maven 2 repository, is there any possibility of corruption in the repository?

GeoTools and GeoServer stable series are mandated to be built with maven 2, trunk series can also be built with maven 3
but we still haven’t done a switch to it as the minimum requirement (we can do that once the stable series are effectively dead,
a few months from now I believe).

As for the oudated jars, yep, noticed that as well, especially as reported by colleagues of mine thatonly build geoserver but do not have the habit of building also geotools every morning (which I guess
most active devs do, so they don’t end up seeing the problem).
Not sure why that is happening though, but as a hunch I suspect a clock issue either on the build server
or on the maven repo machine. Can’t do anything about it myself, the machine is hosted by OpenGeo
(which I’m thankful for).

Cheers
Andrea

I often see problems with GeoServer's geowebcache SNAPSHOT dependencies not being updated, causing build failures when an API changes. I have to manually remove the geowebcache artifacts from my local repository. See this wild-goose-chase for example:
https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5083

I think this is the same problem the original reporters are seeing. If anyone can figure out why this is happening and how to fix it, I will be rather pleased.

Kind regards,
Ben.

We had one of our build guys make a change to how snapshots were handled by way of a temporary fix.

I also note that we are often running behind a nexus (i.e. maven repository on the edge of a firewall) just to make matters more exciting.
